NV – OPINION – Dangerous consequences possible for Second Amendment sanctuaries

LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS IN NEVADA AND ELSEWHERE WHO ARE EMBRACING THE CONCEPT OF SECOND AMENDMENT SANCTUARIES CLAIM TO BE PROTECTING CITIZENS’ RIGHTS AND UPHOLDING THE CONSTITUTION, BUT THEY’RE DEAD WRONG ON BOTH COUNTS. AND AS A RESULT, THEY’RE PUTTING PEOPLE IN HARM’S WAY AND LEAVING THEIR COUNTIES VULNERABLE TO LEGAL ACTION. THESE SO-CALLED SANCTUARIES ARE COUNTIES IN A HANDFUL OF STATES WHERE SHERIFFS AND OTHER LOCAL OFFICIALS HAVE REJECTED THEIR DUTY TO UPHOLD GUN SAFETY MEASURES PASSED BY STATE LEGISLATURES.

VA – OPINION – Gun sanctuary resolutions have ‘no legal effect’

VA – OPINION – Gun sanctuary resolutions have ‘no legal effect’esolutions passed by local governments declaring themselves “Second Amendment Sanctuaries” have “no legal effect,” Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring said Friday. Since Democrats won majorities in the state Senate and House of Delegates in November, more than 100 cities, towns and counties have passed such resolutions, vowing to oppose any new gun laws they believe violate the Second Amendment….

PA – OPINION – Law-abiding gun owners need not fear ghost gun plan. So stop whining about it

Every time someone suggests a way to reduce gun violence, Second Amendment worshipers throw a tantrum. “Target the criminals instead of violating the rights of law-abiding citizens,” they read from their NRA-provided script. Well, on Monday that’’s what Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro did. He issued a legal opinion that tries to prevent felons, who aren’t allowed to buy or possess guns, from building their own. He ruled that…

VA – OPINION – Democrats haven’t even taken over the General Assembly yet, but it’s not too soon to ask: Have they already overreached?

In the wake of the Democratic victories in November, conservative localities in the state — mostly rural ones — have been rushing to declare themselves “Second Amendment sanctuaries.” Rep. Gerald Connelly, D-Fairfax County, has called for sheriffs and deputies who refuse to enforce any new gun laws to be “prosecuted for failure to fulfill their oath.”

Rep. Donald McEachin, D-Richmond, has called for the state to cut off funding to…

NAT’L – OPINION – Banning Guns Will Not Make Schools Safe

SCHOOL SHOOTINGS HAVE BECOME THE LATEST PRETEXT FOR POLITICIANS TO DESTROY THE SECOND AMENDMENT. MAYOR PETE BUTTIGIEG OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, DECLARED IN A DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES’ DEBATE, “I WAS PART OF THE FIRST GENERATION THAT SAW ROUTINE SCHOOL SHOOTINGS. WE HAVE NOW PRODUCED THE SECOND SCHOOL-SHOOTING GENERATION IN THIS COUNTRY. WE DARE NOT ALLOW THERE TO BE A THIRD.”

VA – OPINION – Virginia’s Second Amendment Sanctuaries: An Update

Last week I wrote about the spread of Virginia’s “Second Amendment sanctuaries” — counties, towns, and cities that vow not to enforce state gun laws they deem unconstitutional, in the wake of the Democrats’ taking control of the state government. There are a few new developments worth noting. For starters, the sanctuaries have spread dramatically. They’re up to 93 jurisdictions — covering roughly 40 percent of the population, by my quick spreadsheet tally….

VA – OPINION – Their View: Why Democrats should visit a Second Amendment sanctuary

Here’s a suggestion for the new Democratic leaders who will be in charge of the next General Assembly: They should visit one of the meetings where rural crowds are demanding that their locality declare itself a “Second Amendment sanctuary.” Not because it will change their minds about passing new gun laws. And not because it will change the mind of gun-rights advocates, either. We’re quite certain no minds would…

The Best Hunting Scope

CHICAGO TRIBUNE – From the Archives – A good hunting scope brings the target closer, presenting a larger, clearer target and dramatically increasing your chances of an accurate shot. However, with the huge range of different models available, it’s quite a challenge to pick the right one. Hunting scope descriptions include a couple of numbers, 3-9 x 40mm being the most…

VA – OPINION – The Gun Sanctuary Movement Is Exploding

CONSERVATIVES HAVE RAILED FOR YEARS AGAINST SO-CALLED SANCTUARY JURISDICTIONS, CRITICIZING LOCALITIES THAT REFUSE TO COOPERATE WITH FEDERAL IMMIGRATION POLICIES THEY DEEM HEARTLESS AND INEFFECTIVE. IN THE PAST YEAR, HOWEVER, SOME CONSERVATIVE LAWMAKERS HAVE TAKEN A PAGE FROM THE PROGRESSIVE PLAYBOOK, EMPLOYING SANCTUARY IMAGERY IN OPPOSITION TO GUN SAFETY LEGISLATION THEY DEEM TO BE AN UNCONSTITUTIONAL RESTRICTION OF THEIR RIGHTS UNDER THE SECOND AMENDMENT.

NAT’L – OPINION – I Cover Financial Crime. Here’s How I Got Held Up Without a Gun.

IN LESS CYBERNETIC TIMES, BANK ROBBERS “KNOCKED OVER” BANKS WITH TOMMY GUNS AND DROVE OFF WITH THE LOOT, SAYS WRITER. NOW THIEVES ARE MORE LIKELY TO SILENTLY STEAL YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION IN INDIRECT (OFTEN ONLINE) MODES BEFORE THEY PILFER ACTUAL DOLLARS. I KNOW THIS FIRSTHAND BECAUSE IT HAPPENED TO ME. THIEVES ACQUIRED MY PERSONAL BANK INFORMATION, PRINTED FAKE PAPER CHECKS, AND TRIED TO PASS $8,000 WORTH OF THEM. WHILE I CONSIDER MYSELF A FAIRLY SOPHISTICATED PERSON – I’VE BEEN COVERING FRAUD AS A JOURNALIST FOR DECADES – THE IRONY OF BECOMING A VICTIM SHOWED HOW PERSISTENT AND MULTILAYERED THIEVERY IS TODAY.

NAT’L – OPINION – Pensacola Shooting Is Not A Useful Gun Control Narrative

As with any other mass shooting, Democratic leaders used the terrorist attack in Pensacola, FL, to push for gun control. Several presidential contenders rushed to social media to call for more restrictions on firearms. But this particular incident is fading in usefulness. Why? After news of the shooting broke, Democrats began their calls for more gun control, with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) tweeting: “Pearl Harbor. Pensacola. Not even our military bases are safe from…

IL – OPINION – Will Supreme Court review or punt on gun rights?

Democratic presidential candidate and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was apoplectic over oral arguments that were scheduled to be held Monday at the U.S. Supreme Court.

He complained that the National Rifle Association, in an effort to wipe out “basic gun-safety laws around the country,” was “getting a hearing in front of the U.S. Supreme Court.” “The stakes couldn’t be higher,” he warned. He is, of course, correct….

NYC – OPINION – Judge Andrew Napolitano: Supreme Court considering important gun rights case (VIDEO)

In a 2008 case called District of Columbia v. Heller, and again in a 2010 case called McDonald v. City of Chicago, the Supreme Court definitively interpreted the Second Amendment. That amendment was written, the court ruled in both cases, to mandate the obligation of the federal government, as well as cities and states, to recognize, respect and permit the exercise of the right to self-defense, using the same level of technology…

NAT’L – OPINION – The End of the “Trump Slump” in Gun Sales Has Arrived

EVER SINCE DONALD TRUMP TOOK OFFICE AND REPUBLICANS MAINTAINED CONTROL OF THE SENATE, GUN SALES HAVE BEEN DOWN. PEOPLE IN THE INDUSTRY HAVE REFERRED TO IT AS “THE TRUMP SLUMP.” BUT NOW, WITH THE NEXT ELECTION NOT LOOKING LIKE A SURE THING AND DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES PROMISING BANS AND CONFISCATIONS, THAT TREND HAS FINALLY TURNED AROUND. BASED ON FBI RECORDS OF BACKGROUND CHECKS BEING PERFORMED, THE UNITED STATES IS ON TRACK TO BREAK A GUN SALES RECORD SET DURING BARACK OBAMA’S LAST YEAR IN OFFICE.

NAT’L – OPINION – We cannot rely solely on the courts to save the Second Amendment

For the first time in nearly a decade, the United States Supreme Court heard oral arguments on a case directly involving the Second Amendment. The nuanced and highly specific nature of the case also makes it less likely that the court, even if it were to issue a ruling, would hand down the broad support for gun rights that Heller and McDonald failed to deliver. Instead, like those two…

NAT’L – OPINION – It’s Never Enough: Gun Control Advocates Won’t Ever Be Satisfied With Marginal Changes to Our Gun Laws

WHEN SEEKING TO PASS WHATEVER THE ANTI-GUN FLAVOR OF THE MONTH IS WHEN IT COMES TO GUN LEGISLATION, ANTI-GUN ADVOCATES OFTEN CLAIM TO BE SEEKING ONLY “REASONABLE” SOLUTIONS. THEY OFTEN CLAIM THAT IF JUST ONE MORE MARGINAL RESTRICTION ON OUR RIGHTS IS ENACTED, THEN WE WILL BE “SAFER.” NOWHERE WAS THIS MORE EVIDENT THAN EARLIER THIS YEAR WHEN ANTI-GUN ADVOCATES AND MEMBERS OF CONGRESS WORKED TO PASS TWO ANTI-GUN BILLS THROUGH THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, H.R. 8, THE SO-CALLED “UNIVERSAL” BACKGROUND CHECK BILL, AND A “RED FLAG” BILL.

NAT’L – OPINION – Can we sue the authoritarian left for endangering us with gun control?

CAN WE SUE THE AUTHORITARIAN LEFT FOR ENDANGERING US WITH GUN CONTROL? THAT QUESTION WAS ASKED BY A WRITER WHO BELIEVES THAT THE TAKING OF LEGAL ACTION AGAINST THE AUTHORITARIAN SOCIALIST LEFT FOR ENDANGERING EVERYONE WITH THEIR FARCICAL RESTRICTIONS ON LIBERTY SOMEHOW PROTECTS THEM.

NAT’L – OPINION – African Americans Aren’t The Only People Democrats Want To Disarm

Democrats running for president may have realized they angered voters by calling for gun bans and confiscation earlier this year, because they barely mentioned the subject in their November debate. However, as Ecclesiastes 1:9 reminds us, “What has been is what will be . . . there is nothing new under the sun.” In the post-bellum South, Democrats prohibited blacks from possessing guns outright or imposed gun prohibitions selectively…
