As (Far) Right As Rain
If the far left has anything at all to claim about gun rights advocates being far right, they’re as right as rain. Such constitutional groups as the shadowy-quasi military “militia” are no more nor no less than the strictest interpreters of the Second Amendment. The far left considers the 2A as a “privilege” to own a gun while the far right views the amendment not just as a right but a God-given one: the preamble to the Declaration of Independence affirming that all men “are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
No less than Democrat John F. Kennedy, a contemporary president never tagged as philosophically or politically right or left by today’s partisan standards, famously declared that “the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe—the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God.” Why? Because everyone has the right to self-defense.
During the national closedown brought on by the coronavirus, Americans were ordered by their political overseers to, among other restrictions, shelter-in-place; basically stay home and have little to no other personal contact with outside the home family, friends, associates and workmates. That order also included shutting down restaurants, bars and other places where people mingle. President Trump determined that some states could begin returning to pre-closure activity. Some businesses, possibly premature in their actions, began opening up once again even in advance of their state’s governors’ timeline. When that didn’t happen, law-abiding demonstrators took to the streets. They didn’t burn any buildings, start any fires, face off with police…but some openly and legally carried arms. The far left screamed “government disobedience.”
The demonstrators, as demanding of having their freedom returned as non-violently as they could, were making a point and, as long as they do it non-violently, we applaud their efforts. That, friends, is the difference between the far left and the far right. As gun owners and 2A supporters, we plead to be as fervently right and law abiding as rain.
