IL – LE – Follow the money: Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart’s new plan for stemming gun violence

CHICAGO TRIBUNE July 13, 2017 – In an effort to crack down on Chicago’s persistent gun violence, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart announced Thursday his office will be alerting local police when defendants with gun charges post lucrative bonds. From February through May, 351 alleged gun suspects posted more than $5,000 to bond out of Cook County Jail, with the sum of their bonds exceeding $3.3 million. “We should be using the laws on the books to find out where they are getting that kind of money.”  [full article]
