IN – HUNTING – Man impaled by antlers during rollover accident while hunting in southern Indiana

An Indiana man was airlifted to a hospital after a rollover accident that caused him to be impaled by the antlers of a deer he had killed while out hunting, officials said. The accident was reported around 2 p.m. Monday in the 11000 block of South Fork Road, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Investigators said Earl Hagy, 63, was retrieving a harvested antlered deer from the bottom of a steep incline where he had been hunting when the accident occurred. According to the DNR, Hagy secured the deer to the rear of the off-road vehicle he was using when he tried to drive back up the incline, causing the vehicle to roll over backward, throwing Hagy off. Hagy was impaled in the right side of his torso by the antlers of the deer, officials said. He was airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Hospital, where he remains in stable condition. Additional details were not released. Several law enforcement officers from surrounding agencies responded to the scene.  [full article]
