MD – RETAILERS – Baltimore Co. Lawmakers Pass Bill Mandating More Security For Gun Shops

By a 6 to 1 vote, the Baltimore County Council has passed a bill requiring more security at gun shops and gun shows. The Secure All Firearms Effectively Act will create a new license for firearm retailers, which would have to implement a police-approved safety plan. County Executive John Olszewski Jr. applauded the council members who joined in support of what he calls a commonsense public safety solution that will keep stolen guns off the streets and out of the hands of violent criminals. “I think it balances the need to keep our community safe with not impacting the ability for these retail establishments to remain open,” Olszewski said. The SAFE Act will become law in Baltimore County. Olszewski introduced the legislation in November 2019 after seven gun shops were burglarized 10 times in 2018 and 2019. According to reports, 51 guns were stolen in one of those incidents. “No doubt about it, these guns that are stolen end up killing people in our community,” County Councilman Julian Jones said.  [full article]
