NC – GUN RIGHTS – Gun sanctuary push spreads to Wilson County

Some Wilson residents want the county Board of Commissioners to declare Wilson County a Second Amendment sanctuary. Michael McCroskey, 54, has owned guns since he was 9, when his grandfather bought him a Marlin .22-caliber rifle. He still has the gun. McCroskey has taken to Facebook to ask commissioners to stand with Wilson County residents in support of Second Amendment rights and against people who want to take away firearms. “I want to let you know that I strongly support the vote of a resolution for Wilson County to be declared a Second Amendment sanctuary county,” McCroskey said in a Tuesday email sent to county officials. Board of Commissioners Chairman Rob Boyette said earlier this week that commissioners haven’t discussed Second Amendment sanctuaries in any official capacity. McCroskey said he realizes the resolution wouldn’t interfere with enforcement of any federal or state gun control laws. “I do, however, believe, as a resident of Wilson County, North Carolina, that this sends a message to our legislators in Raleigh that we do not wish to spend tax dollars, time and energy on laws that restrict the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens,” McCroskey said. “I believe that current debate in Virginia will spill over to other states including North Carolina. I believe the declaration sends a message that we will not stand by and allow state or federal legislators to restrict our Second Amendment rights.”  [full article]
