Democrats are reportedly moving ahead with plans to take up President Joe Biden’s gun control proposals in the coming days and the National Rifle Association has already warned its members.Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Wednesday signed into law a measure easing the state's restrictions on the use of deadly force in self-defense, but urged conservatives who pushed for the legislation to pass a hate crimes proposal they've so far resisted.The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will hold its annual spring auction April 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Auction Solutions, 7803 Military Ave., Omaha, Nebraska. Doors will open at 8 a.m. Items up for auction include more than 600 firearms, bows, gun barrels, scopes and other assorted equipment. The group New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence is teaming up with the Las Cruces Public Department to host a drive-thru gun buyback event this month. It is scheduled to be held Saturday, March 13 at the East Mesa Public Safety Complex at 550 N. Sonoma Ranch Blvd. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to organizers.Wyoming lawmakers will consider a new law allowing people with concealed carry permits to take guns into areas where firearms were previously prohibited, such as schools and legislative meetings. House Bill 117 and Senate File 67 would repeal gun-free zones in government meetings, public schools, public university buildings and professional athletic events. Only those with state-issued concealed carry permits would be legally allowed to carry guns in those areas.

Coupled with the fortunate timing of Ammon Critchfield’s tenacity in making Camp Perry a reality for National Match competition was NRA President James Drain’s desire to further develop the Association in several key areas which advanced the cause of marksmen everywhere. Drain’s own formula of persistence translated into increased membership, expanded programs and an emphasis on solidifying the NRA’s relationship with the War Department. In fact, one of his most visible actions as president took place this year when he had the NRA offices moved from New York to Washington, D.C., in order to be closer to and more interactive with the National Board for the Promotion of Rifle Practice. Marksmen indeed had reason to celebrate in 1908. Excitement and momentum accompanied the National Matches as a larger, more mature Camp Perry readied itself for record numbers of competitors. The Ohio General Assembly on May 1, 1908, approved Senate Bill 303, whereby $6,600 of state funds was appropriated for the purchase of an additional 64 acres, bringing the total Camp Perry tract to 488 acres. This same bill also included the official legislative recognition of the camp’s namesake, Commodore Oliver Hazzard Perry. In the August 13, 1908 edition of Arms and the Man, an article entitled “The Curtain is Raised at Camp Perry,” reported some of the progress made in a year’s time: “… Gone are the muddy roads … A straight stretch of macadam roadway runs from the railroad station past the mess hall and Commercial Row to the administration buildings and … leads up to the clubhouse … Arc lights are stationed wherever necessary and all buildings are abundantly lighted by incandescents. Fifty new targets have been added for the 1,000-yard range, which has perfected the scheme of consolidation by giving a common firing line for all ranges … The sutler’s tent, which stood where the new mess hall is being erected, has been moved …  [full article]
