OK – GUN SAFETY – Stillwater police investigating after gun accidentally discharged in Walmart (VIDEO)

It was a scary situation for shoppers at an Oklahoma store on Monday morning. “The first thing that comes to my mind when the gun goes off is how many kids were in the store,” Joe Munoz, who lives in Stillwater, told News 4. On late Monday morning, officers with the Stillwater Police Department were called to the Walmart on 6th St. after a customer’s gun accidentally discharged inside the store. “The gun, the safety wasn’t on, in a shoulder holster,” Munoz said. Authorities say the customer’s .32 caliber pistol went off while the gun was inside a holster. The gun fired in the jewelry section, but the bullet was recovered from the men’s department. “One of the witnesses speculated that there was a strap on the holster itself and they speculate the strap got hung up in the trigger,” Capt. Kyle Gibbs, with the Stillwater Police Department, said. “As you can imagine, it caused quite a bit of alarm.” A customer who was nearby at the time posted on Facebook, “It was the “what ifs” that really got to me.” She went on to say, “I was a shaking mess and could barely put my card up to swipe it.” At the end of the post, she wrote, “I’m thankful my kids weren’t with me. I’m thankful the bullet didn’t ricochet and hit anyone…. it could have easily hit me.”  [full article]
