WI – HUNTING – Buck Tales: The stories behind the hunt

One of the things that makes deer hunting a treasured tradition in Wisconsin is the experience the hunters have out in the woods. And there have been more hunters this year, getting more deer. It’s a trend other states have seen as well. Wildlife officials are attributing the rise in interest to the coronavirus pandemic leading people to want to get out of the house for socially istanced outdoor recreation. Locally, hundreds of hunters have shared their Buck Tales with us this year, and many of them come with unique stories. Here are some of the tales behind the Buck Tales: Every year, experienced hunters pass on their knowledge to a new generation. Many of the photos in our Buck Tales gallery came from first-time hunters — or hunters who bagged a buck for the first time. One of those stories came from a hunter aptly named Hunter. He brought down his first buck on opening weekend in Door County. Fathers and sons hit the woods together, but don’t overlook father-daughter hunting teams.
